Yuri Eduardovich Monastyrsky is the main founder of Monastyrsky, Zyuba, Stepanov & Partners law firm (January 1991).

Yuri graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) with honors in 1990.

For 22 consecutive years the most reputable international rating agencies have highly evaluated Yuri Monastyrsky, putting him at the top of the professional ratings. In particular:

  • Chambers & Partners awarded him a rare title of "Eminent Practitioner" in the categories:
    Dispute Resolution: International,
    Dispute Resolution: Domestic High-End.

  • The Legal 500 named him a Leading Individual in
    Dispute Resolution: Litigation.

The Russian rating Pravo.ru-300 rated him as one of the best lawyers in “Arbitration Proceedings (Major Disputes – High Market)”.

Yuri combines a brilliant career as a practitioner with a successful and unique academic work conveyed in his numerous articles (more than 100) published by the prestigious Russian and international legal journals and contributions to various professional forums and conferences. In 1999 he defended his candidate’s dissertation on the topic "The Prevailing Conflict of Laws Doctrines in the United States" at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In 2020 he completed his doctoral thesis on "Recovery of Damages in the Russian Civil Law" at MGIMO University.

Yuri gives expert opinions on the most intricate and difficult legal issues in the field of civil liability and other complex legal problems.

Due to extensive long-term experience in dispute resolution in national courts and arbitral tribunals Yuri Monastyrsky explores various aspects of property liability under Russian law. He has analyzed and summarized the relevant approaches and concepts expressed in different legal systems, in international legal authorities, as well as in the decisions of international commercial arbitrations, which are autonomous (like arbitration tribunals in Russia) in the matters of substance. Publications of bibliographic platforms Scopus and Web of science (WoS), included in the international citation system, for the last three years have published eleven times the articles of Yuri on the specified topics upon the requests of professional international audience. Comprehensive knowledge and extensive practice give Yuri a special ability to develop and assess the clients' legal positions, to advise and to foresee the prospects of the commercial disputes.

He is a philanthropist and co-founder of the Fund of Grateful Alumni of the MGIMO International Law School (established in 2005).
